How does one go about designing with a medium you can barely hold (water) or shouldn’t hold at all (fire) for a client that doesn’t speak your language in a country you can barely find on a map?

Tim Hunter has been designing with these elements for these people ever since joining WET after graduating from Rhode Island School of Design with a BFA in Industrial Design. During that time he has worked for clients ranging from developers, retail operators, resort owners, casino moguls, government agencies, presidential candidates, royal families, dictators, and opposition movements. His water and fire features have spanned the world from popular tourist destinations to remote Asian jungles; from sweaty-hot deserts to bitterly-cold sub-arctics. They have been viewed by three billion people on live TV and bombed by terrorists (once). People get engaged next to them, married in them, and regardless where his features are, people are universally delighted by the sight of water.

We as designers all face the challenge of creating something from nothing. By jumping off the deep end and wholeheartedly immersing ourselves into each new project, some delightfully wonderful results can (and will) occur. With a heavy dose of jet lag and a stomach full of strange food, Tim continues to throw himself into surprisingly unusual, yet inspirational, experiences.
