Business Bootcamp – A Designer’s Guide to Marketing and Business

In The Duncan Anderson Design Department Gallery at California State University, Long Beach

The success of any business is driven by its ability to deliver great products, and the nature of business today is such that designers are much more effective in the workplace if they do more than just design.

Designers have a unique opportunity to harness their creative problem solving skills, change the way business is done, and establish themselves as the cornerstone of whatever industry they work in.
In this talk, Mark McCann discusses marketing and business basics that will help improve processes and communications between designers and other functional groups within organizations.

Mark McCann began his career as an Industrial Designer before moving into various disciplines from finance, .com’s, non-profit, and marketing. He has spent the last several years focusing on product marketing at Western Digital, Toshiba and currently Oakley, where he is the Global Product Manager for their Prescription Lenses business. In his free time, he also coaches entrepreneurs and small start-ups on marketing, product development, and launch strategy. He has as a B.S. in Industrial Design from CSULB, and an MBA from Chapman University.
