Developing a Branded Communications Master Plan
In The Duncan Anderson Design Department Gallery at California State University, Long Beach
Robin Perkins presents her design approach to developing comprehensive branded communications master plans for projects around the world. From logos to landmarks, her firm’s work includes art, communications, and environments. From the minute someone enters a new environment — be it a retail district, museum, restaurant, entertainment venue or sporting arena — they look for certain visual cues to guide them around the space, whether they realize it or not. Every environment needs to visually communicate with its occupants to help them navigate and fully experience the space. A property’s signage and wayfinding plan is often the first touchpoint visitors have with an unfamiliar environment — it welcomes them, helps them navigate a new place and immediately shapes their overall experience and feeling about that place.
Robin was educated as a Graphic Designer at the Rhode Island School of Design and went on to study sculpture at the Massachusetts College of Art. Her passion for art and design led her to pursue a successful career in environmental communications design and brand strategy development. As a co-founder of Selbert Perkins Design, she has developed a visionary approach to art, design and communications in the built environment.
Robin’s creativity and strategic approach have resulted in national and international recognition for design excellence. The author of “’d2S.P.A.C.E.,”’d3 she has been published internationally, and honored with a myriad of awards, including the Los Angeles Business Journal 2010 Innovation Award and SEGD 2011 Fellow Award. She is a current member of the American Institute of Graphic Arts, the International Sculpture Center, Urban Land Institute, Westside Urban Forum and Women in Architecture, as well as an Advisory Board Member of the Architecture + Design Museum in Los Angeles. She is a former Board Member of the Society for Environmental Graphic Design (SEGD) and has served as a juror and guest speaker at conferences around the world, including the 2011 GSA Excellence in Design Awards.
